  13. I want to stress that this file can only give a little view
  14. over the capabilities of CoNnect and if you want to use this
  15. program with all its featueres you'll have to register and 
  16. receive the detailled handbook. This is especially valid for
  17. the description of CoNnect's script language. Though this
  18. files containes a very short description of this script's
  19. features you will probably not be able to use all its features
  20. unless you have some experience in programming unix-like shells.

  22. An additional reason for paying the shareware fee could bee
  23. that you feel annoyed by CoNnect's messages about the fact
  24. that it likes paying users much more ;-)

  27. INTRO

  30. About CoNnect
  31. -------------
  32.  
  33. CoNnect is a terminal program for the ATARI ST/STE/TT series,
  34. which will run under (nearly) any resolution and operating
  35. system similar to the ATARI TOS. It allows a very good emulation
  36. of VT52, VT100, VT102/ANSI and VT220 Terminals. You can use
  37. this emulations on all serial and midi ports of your system
  38. and - if you want - even in parallel. CoNnect was testet on
  39. lots of graphics hardware and it seems to run well with all
  40. of them.
  41.  
  42. Beeing in VT100, Vt102 or VT220 Mode you can configure CoNnect
  43. to allow TEK 4014 graphics emulation.
  44.  
  45. In addition to its terminal features you can use CoNnect under
  46. MiNT/MultiTOS to run shells and processes in CoNnects windows.

  48. I tried hard to develop CoNnect without bugs and a large number
  49. of beta testers helped me with that task. Nevertheless CoNnect
  50. certainly contains some bugs and I refuse any responsibility
  51. on damage which is caused by the usage or non-usage of CoNnect.

  54. Conversion to English:

  56. First rename the File CONNECT.RSC, e.g. to CONNECT.RSX, so that
  57. you won't lose the original resource file. Then change the filename
  58. CONNENG.RSC to CONNECT.RSC.

  62. Eerst moet U CONNECT.RSC omnoemen naar CONNECT.RSX of zo (daarme
  63. U die origineel niet zullen verliezen), dan CONNNED.RSC naar

  72. In the archive CONN110i.LZH you should have found at least the
  73. following files:

  75. CONNECT.PRG    The progran
  76. CONNECT.RSC    The German resource file
  77. CONNENG.RSC    The English resource file
  78. CONNECT.ASC    The text resource-File
  79. CONNECT.CHR    The vector font for TEK display
  80. CONNECT.OPT    The options file, that, if existing, is loaded
  81.                at CoNnect's start.
  82. CONNECT.CTL    The telephone book with (german) numbers of 
  83.                the so called MausNet.
  84. CONNECT.SCR    A default script which is run after the first
  85.                window of CoNnect has opened.
  86. CONNECT.NUM    A file which containes information on telephone
  87.                fees for dialed numbers. The calculations done
  88.                with this file are so far only valid for Germany.
  89. COSHY.RC       A startup file for CoNnect's intern command shell
  90.                named coshy.

  93. CoNnect is SHAREWARE!
  94. ---------------------
  95.  
  96. CoNnect runs in shareware status. That means, that you can test
  97. this terminal and copy it without fees but you'll have to pay
  98. for CoNnect if you use it regularly. If you copy CoNnect be sure
  99. to only copy the original .LZH file containing all the files
  100. belonging to this software package.
  101.  
  102. After one month of testing CoNnect behaves less user friendly
  103. because it believes that one month of testing is more than
  104. enough to find a decision for or against CoNnect.
  105.  
  106. If you pay for CoNnect, you'll receive a registration key which
  107. will make a full version out of your demo.

  109. And read this urgent warning:

  111. ! CoNnect will try to avoid being patched and people having done   !
  112. ! this though this warning felt save a few days only. CoNnect will !
  113. ! strike back! I will not be liable for any damage resulting from  !

  117. After testing this software for one month you have to decide whether
  118. you want continue using CoNnect or not. In the latter case, you
  119. have to do nothing or if you want you may remove CoNnect from
  120. your system.

  164. The first start of CoNnect

  171. would give you thousands of years of trouble-free service, except that
  172. you undoubtably will destroy it via some typical bonehead consumer
  173. maneuver.  Which is why we ask you to PLEASE FOR GOD'S SAKE READ THIS
  174. OWNER'S MANUAL CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU UNPACK THE DEVICE.  YOU ALREADY
  175. UNPACKED IT, DIDN'T YOU?  YOU UNPACKED IT AND PLUGGED IT IN AND TURNED

  185. Start CoNnect by e.g. double-clicking it's icon on the
  186. desktop.
  187.  
  188. CoNnect will ask you for the file CONNECT.OPT which you certainly
  189. haven't received so just klick the 'cancel' button. 
  190.  
  191. Open a window by selecting the menu item `WINDOW - Open Window'.
  192. Than, surprisingly, a window opens and a cursor is blinking
  193. in the left upper corner.
  194.  
  195. You can start typing nasty words in the window and in the case
  196. you have connected your modem to the computer these words
  197. will be displayed on screen.
  198.  
  199. Now - you obviously want to dial your favorite BBS. There
  200. are many ways to do this. At the moment you just can type
  201.  
  202.     atd bbs-number
  203.     
  204. and if successful you'll get a CoNnect to this system and
  205. can operate there in the way you probably already know.
  206.  
  207. If not - no this is not a manual for telecomm in general,
  208. only a manual for CoNnect. But a very long manual ...
  209. Don't give up reading...
  210.  
  211. THE MENU BAR
  212. ============
  213.  
  214. In this chapter all the items of the main menu bar (mmb) at
  215. top of your screen will be discussed. In contrast to the mmb
  216. there exists a lot of wmb's (window menu bars) which can
  217. be found at the top of most windows.
  218.  
  219. The menu titles:

  221. CoNnect
  222. -------
  223.   ... about CoNnect
  224.      will display a little info box containing information about
  225.      this great program the authors and the principle of shareware.
  226.      
  227. File 
  228. ---- 
  229.   Load Options...
  230.      loads saved option files which can only be saved by using...
  231.      
  232.   Save Options...
  233.      Saves the informations you entered to the still following
  234.      items of the mmb and about open window positions and their
  235.      setups.
  236.      
  237.   Quit
  238.      Could be kind of buggy. Some users have reported that this
  239.      function leaves CoNnect and returns to the desktop. I will
  240.      try to fix this problem ;-)
  241.      
  242. Window
  243. ------
  244.   Using this title you can handle a varity of CoNnects windows.
  245.   You can open as many windows as your system allows you and
  246.   are able to work on different ports in different terminal
  247.   windows.
  248.   
  249.   For each terminal window a lot of setup data can be installed
  250.   but this will be discussed in a seperate chapter.
  251.  
  252.   Open
  253.      Opens a terminal window. What else?
  254.      
  255.   Close
  256.      Closes the actual topped window, if and only if this
  257.      window belongs to CoNnect. You also can close your
  258.      windows by clicking the close button of this window.
  259.      
  260.   Cycle
  261.      Tops another window of CoNnect. This can either be
  262.      a terminal window or a window dialogue.
  263.      
  264.   <names of the opened window>
  265.      Below all opened windows are listed and can be topped
  266.      by selecting one of the entries. The actual window
  267.      is checked.
  268.      
  269. Options
  270. -------
  271.   Some general and global Options can be entered using the
  272.   options menu.
  273.   
  274.   Registration
  275.     You have to enter your name and CoNnect will answer this
  276.     name with your personal user id. These two informations
  277.     are needed to calculate your key which is valid only for
  278.     your TOS version. If you change your operating system you
  279.     will have to ask for another key.
  280.     
  281.     You can enter up to 6 different keys if you are one of
  282.     these guys who runs 6 different OS-versions on one machine.
  283.     
  284.   Misc
  285.     A lot of different settings can be installed here. They
  286.     belong to the behaviour of the CoSHy-Shell, the handling
  287.     of the Clipbord, the way the wmb (window menu bar) can be
  288.     accessed and the look and feel of window dialogues.
  289.     
  290.   Fee Statistics
  291.     This Item is only useful for a few countrys including
  292.     Germany and Austria. It can be used to evaluate the
  293.     telephone fees created by the use of CoNnect.
  294.     A international way to handle this statistic is in 
  295.     preparation.
  296.     
  297.   Paula
  298.     This is the interface to PAULA, a shareware .MOD-file player.
  299.     For certain system events (like login or logout) .MOD-files
  300.     can be selected which will be played if this event occures.
  301.     You have got to install Paula as PAULA.ACC to use this
  302.     feature.
  303.  
  304. PROGRAM
  305. -------
  306.   Start a Shell
  307.     If you have installed a shell in your system, you will be
  308.     able to run this shell either in the MW-window or on the
  309.     TOS-Screen. Shells can be installed using the _shell_p
  310.     system variable or $SHELL.
  311.   
  312.   Start a Program
  313.     Extern Programs can by launched using this item. At the
  314.     moment, no extra parameters can be given to them...
  315.     
  316.   Start CoSHy.
  317.     Starts the built-in shell CoSHy on the TOS-Screen.
  318.     This item is not available unter a multitasking OS.
  319.     CoSHy can either be used as a unix-like shell or
  320.     as the script interpreter for a lot of CoNnect commands.
  321.     Scripts can also be learned by CoSHy using the wmb-item
  322.     Learn a Script (described below)
  323.     
  324. Terminal Windows
  325. ================
  326.  
  327. Handling
  328. --------

  330. The terminal window is devided in 2 or 3 parts. At top there
  331. is the window menu bar (wmb) containing some information about
  332. the online time the money the call wasted so far and the VT100
  333. keyboard leds.
  334.  
  335. Below this wmb there can be the optional status line containing
  336. informations for you from the host or several user selectable
  337. online informations.
  338.  
  339. And below this you can find the real terminal. Normally 24 x 80
  340. chars displayed in several user definable fonts, with oder without
  341. scrollbars and with or without history buffer.

  343. The way, you can enter and read text shall be discussed below.
